Capstone offers modern, open concept floor plans with a huge selection of available structural and cosmetic options to fit any family’s needs. Although we are one of the largest privately owned builders in the Twin Cities area, we are family owned and operated. We treat each home and homeowner with the utmost care just like we would our own families.

We’ve value-engineered our floor plans and teamed up with our trade partners to be able to provide you with more square footage and a higher quality home for the best value. Capstone Homes currently offers model homes that are already in the process of being built for you to buy. Our designers select the most popular options so that the model home you choose will have the interior and exterior colors that you desire.
Also, in selected neighborhoods, we have recently brought back the opportunity to build a home from the ground up. You choose an open homesite in your favorite neighborhood and select a floor plan that we offer and the process begins. Many people still prefer to buy the model homes that we already have in process, but we are happy to serve your family's needs with either of these options.
Our goal is to provide you with the highest level of customer care throughout the building process. You’ll find our team to be quick and responsive in addressing your needs, and you’ll have peace of mind knowing that our extensive quality control process, "Capstone Confidence Program", requires that your home has been checked over multiple times before you move in.

Ben MinksPresident
After starting a drywall business at age 20, Ben built his first home at 23. He began a homebuilding business in 1999. Ben has a passion for his faith, his family, and developing the people who work at Capstone Homes. Ben has always believed the best way to deliver a quality product at an exceptional value is through systems, not shortcuts. Over the years, Ben and his team have developed many innovative systems and processes that save time, money, and manpower. These systems are a big reason Capstone is known to deliver great value year after year, without compromising on quality. Ben lives in Minnesota and has been married to his high school sweetheart Rachel since 1996. They have 5 amazing kids who are now young adults. Ben and Rachel are passionate about living out their Christian faith in the marketplace.
Rachel MinksChief Culture Officer
Rachel Minks, Chief Culture Officer at Capstone Homes, is the leader of the 'Capstone Community'. The goal outlined in the Capstone mission statement is, '..to serve others and impact the community'. Rachel is passionate about community and culture within the company and making an impact beyond. Through service, generosity, and creating events, Rachel works to create unity and share the love of Christ to employees, sub-contractors, homeowners, and the surrounding community.
Darin CoonsChief Operating Officer
Darin Coons has been with Capstone Homes for over 20 years and is incredibly passionate about his faith with the Lord, customer satisfaction, and assisting in making a healthy company culture. Before becoming Chief Operating Officer, Darin worked in home construction for over 17 years and now uses that knowledge to implement more efficient processes and operations in our home building procedures. Two objectives that he is always working towards, is making sure everyone’s voice is heard and assuring that Capstone Homes delivers what we have committed to our customers. Outside of the office, Darin loves spending his time with his wife, their six children and their loved ones, and their newest grandchild. They love to hike anywhere there is a trail, play sports, and spend time with each other whenever they get the chance.
Scott GustafsonVice President of Sales
Scott Gustafson has been with Capstone Homes since 2003. Scott received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Northwestern St. Paul. He was a high school math teacher and basketball coach for 14 years before starting his career in Real Estate. Scott started out as a sales representative, selling homes sitting around the kitchen table with Ben and potential customers, so he knows all the ins and outs of the building industry and the construction process. These days you will find Scott working with his expert sales team to make sure that you have a great experience as your home is being built. Scott really loves serving people and being a part of a company like Capstone Homes.
Jon PetersonVice President of Purchasing and Product Development
Jon graduated from Northwest Technical College in 1986 with an Associate Degree in Architecture. Upon graduation he was awarded an internship, working on condominium projects. In 1987 he was hired by Hans Hagen Homes.
He started his career with Hans Hagen Homes as an Architectural Draftsman, and then was promoted to estimating and purchasing. In 1992 Jon was named Vice President of Hans Hagen Homes, where he oversaw the Purchasing, Estimating, Design, and Decorating departments. During his career at Hans Hagen Homes, Jon helped develop and build over 5,000 townhomes & semi-custom single-family homes. While working primarily on for-sale single family & town home communities, he also helped develop four rental townhome communities, along with several commercial retail and office projects.
Following the acquisition of Hans Hagen Homes by M/I Homes, Jon was hired by Capstone Homes in 2017 as Vice President of Purchasing & Product Development. In his role at Capstone Homes, Jon works on Product Development, Value Engineering, Vendor Recruitment and manages his team which consists of Purchasing, Estimating, Design and Decorating.
Stephen BonaVice President of Land
Steve Bona, Vice President of Land, has been with Capstone since 2008. Previously the Director of a Twin Cities Residential Development Company for 8 years, Steve has been working in Land Development since 1999, after graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in civil engineering. Steve is responsible for supplying finished lots for Capstone to build homes on. Actively acquiring land by working with landowners across the Twin Cities metro area, Steve focuses on the pre-homebuilding steps which include developing contracts with landowners, designing neighborhoods, acquiring public entitlements, and developing the land of future Capstone Homes.
