The Value of Playgrounds in our Communities

July 31, 2024

What do you think of when you hear the word playground? Chances are, you can still hear the crunch of the gravel beneath your feet as you play tag, feel the wind in your face as you swing so high you reach the sky, and see the colorful luminescence of the inside of the slide as you barrel down at top speed.

Playgrounds are an important part of our memories and are an important part of our communities as well. They breathe life into the surrounding neighborhood and bring otherwise introverted or busy parents out where they will socialize and get to know their neighbors. Most families walk or bike to their neighborhood playground which is great exercise and strengthens kids’ social skills as well as their parents.

In a world filled with screens, playgrounds are a wonderful way to encourage imaginative play and physical activity. In neighborhoods with a playground, many families take a break at least several times a week to walk together to their local playground for some much-needed family time.

Many cities are upgrading older playgrounds and building themed playgrounds in new neighborhoods. These playgrounds are a sought-after amenity for home buyers and increase property value.

If you don’t have a park in your area, generate excitement among neighbors to bring one to your neighborhood. The exact process is different for each location, but you can take advantage of public forums, such as city meetings or HOA board meetings to get things started.

The end of summer and beginning of fall is the perfect time to take advantage of all those neighborhood playgrounds so go have fun outside!

We are very glad to announce that the city of Ramsey will be completing the new playground with a tree fort theme in Capstone’s Riverstone South Neighborhood this Fall. It is almost completed and looks great! Feel free to come check it out.  Also, very excited that the city park in Legacy Bay Farms in St Michael will be ready this Fall. It is just starting to take shape and will have playground equipment and really be a focal point for the families in the Legacy Bay community!
